Headaches - Base of skull
Do you have headaches that start at the base of your skull?
A lot of people immediately think of a headache as a problem inside their head, but sometimes the neck is part of the picture.
The upper cervical spine sits directly beneath your skull. This region contains joints, muscles and nerves that can contribute to certain headache patterns when they’re irritated or not functioning normally.
One clue is the pattern.
Maybe you feel tension at the base of your skull first. Then the discomfort travels upward toward the back of your head, temples or even behind your eyes.
That doesn’t mean every headache comes from your neck. There are many different causes of headaches.
But if yours consistently starts at the base of your skull—especially when you also experience neck stiffness or discomfort—it may be worth having your upper cervical spine evaluated.
